How to play Minesweeper online

Minefield is a free classic Minesweeper game that runs straight in your browser — no download, no signup, no ads between clicks. Choose a difficulty, open the board and clear every safe square without touching a mine.

The rule never changes: a number tells you how many mines touch that square. From there it is pure deduction.

    Start anywhere

    The first click is always safe, and empty areas open automatically.

  2. 02

    Read the numbers

    A number shows how many of the eight neighbouring squares hide a mine.

  3. 03

    Flag the mines

    Press F, right-click, or switch to flag mode to mark a square you suspect.

  4. 04

    Clear the field

    Double-click a number to chord: it opens every safe neighbour once your flags are correct.

DIFFICULTY

Six difficulty levels

Start with a 9×9 beginner field and work up to a 24×36 abyss. From Advanced upwards you also unlock density modifiers that add 25%, 50% or 100% more mines to the same board size.

STRATEGY

Minesweeper strategy tips

Most boards can be finished without guessing. These four habits are what separate a fast clear from a lucky one.

  • Open a corner first. Corners cascade into the biggest empty regions, which gives you more numbers to reason from.
  • Count, then act. When a number already touches that many flags, every other neighbour is safe. When a number has only unopened squares left, they are all mines.
  • Learn the shapes. The 1-2-1 line, the 1-1 wall and the 1-2-2-1 corner each resolve deterministically once you recognise them.
  • Save the guess for last. Chord and expand everything provable before you gamble, so a coin flip costs you only the remaining squares.
